ABSTRACT

My father had been an executive of the American Power and Light Company, and for that reason we were persecuted from the beginning.

I'd like to tell you the reason I paint what I paint. In Cuba, I was a very protected, sheltered child. I had more time to observe my surroundings than the typical child. My father was fascinated by Cuban history. He was born in 1912 and his father had been a veteran of the Cuban war for independence. My father was very, very Cuban and he transmitted that to me. On my mother's side, there was my uncle, who loved to collect artifacts of Cuban history, especially typical styles of architecture, and he transmitted that to me.
