ABSTRACT

To the south of Europe, between the Atlantic and Indian oceans, lies Africa, the hottest and second-largest continent. While culturally sub-Saharan Africa, the major part of the continent south of the Sahara, has been very rich in resources including art, music, religion, narrative and oral tradition, it has only recently entered the period of systematic written philosophy or formal worldview construction. On the other hand, traditional African religions have expressed a series of worldviews of great interest. Before we come to look at these, however, we first need to be clearer as to what Africa is.
