ABSTRACT

As our understanding of the nature and significance of children's peer relationships for their later social and emotional adjustment has improved over the last twenty years or so there has been a corresponding explosion of interest in possible methods of intervention to help those children experiencing relationship difficulties. There are now numerous sophisticated therapeutic approaches for children with relationship difficulties. In this chapter I will initially examine some of the considerations that might lead to a child being regarded as having relationship problems worthy of therapeutic intervention. The main focus of this chapter will be a description and evaluation of the main therapeutic methods that have been used with children experiencing relationship problems.
