ABSTRACT
Remaking Men is concerned with change and transformation in masculinity, society, spirituality, and Jungian psychology. This book is probably best placed in an ongoing tradition of writings that sees the feminine archetypal principle rising in our time.1 The feminine in men and women alike is emerging with new potency, displacing the old patriarchal forms in psyche and society, and demanding an entirely new understanding of social structure, personal identity, and human relationships. I am not just talking about the social impact of political feminism, I am talking about a colossal psychospiritual shift in the collective Western psyche, of which political feminism is one major element. Masculinity must not be eroded or washed away by the rising tide of the feminine, but instead ‘remade’, reconstructed, and allowed to become the intelligent and self-critical partner of the new feminine reformation. The present book is written in a revolutionary spirit, but it will not please all revolutionaries because it argues for balance and integration rather than for the eclipse of masculinity by femininity.
