ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the two key innovative behaviors: discovery skills, which encompass questioning, observing, networking, experimenting and associating, and delivery skills such as analyzing, planning, detailed implementation, and disciplined execution. It also examines motivation within the context of innovative behaviors. The chapter discusses why and how innovative behaviors are essential to improving the central role of innovation and entrepreneurship in economic advancement. It also focuses on motivation within the context of innovative behaviors. Motivation, both extrinsic and intrinsic, is especially relevant with regard to inspiring people to engage in creative and innovative behaviors. Leadership, motivation, and innovative behaviors are closely intertwined. A leader needs to create the conditions that will stimulate the intrinsic motivation of each follower. The leader will then select the leadership style to best match the follower, ideally providing the most autonomy possible for getting results and enabling the follower to grow and develop beyond where they are now.
