ABSTRACT
Most doctoral researchers find it hard to put the thesis together. After completing the slog of analysis and interpretation, it ought to be a fairly straightforward matter to organize the material and then do the writing. Right? Wrong. Sorting out what goes where, in what order and how things fit together is really hard. It is a highly complex thinking-writing task and one which supervisors often feel unable to advise on as much as they would like. This is because they are no longer the experts in the material. They don’t know the intricacies of the research results in the way that the doctoral researcher now does.
