ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on how teachers can use a concept of All A's to get students using higher-level thinking skills in a multistep process. All A's is a process for teachers to use when planning a learning activity or unit and a process for students to use when taking in and demonstrating new knowledge. With absorption, students are metaphorical sponges, soaking up knowledge. To absorb information, students need basic exposure, readings and experience. Absorption can also take place through viewing information or content. The goal of the analysis stage is for students to take the knowledge they've absorbed in the first step and use it to form opinions, hypotheses and critiques. The third step in the All A's process is to argue. The final step in All A's is to apply. The chapter finally shows that according to Bloom's Taxonomy, application is right in the center of critical thinking skills.
