ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how, with a little change, people can balance the demands of their profession. It explores how doing less can sometimes equal doing more; how to use time wisely when time is indeed so precious; how to make the most of grading, planning to meet the needs of the students and the demands of the Common Core; and how collaboration may just save the day for teachers. Balancing content area teaching, projects, inquiry-based learning, grading and literacy may make people feel as though one are carrying the weight of the world on the back. Planning and time management are key to a successful classroom. Combining what one already have and use with new content and new literacy Standards calls for good organization. It is crucial to student learning that teachers know the focus of the unit before beginning and how and when they will ask students to demonstrate knowledge Grading is crucial to student learning and teaching.
