ABSTRACT

JAPANESE callers come early and stay late—particularly if you, the callee, are a foreigner. They like to look at you. They are easy enough to entertain, too, if you do not mind being stared at. But they never go. At least no one but Dara Santaro ever went, and he did so only once. He could not do so again, for he did not come back. This achievement of his (which was partly ours) emphasises the rule. Here is the story.
