At the same time UK fans spent £1.45 billion on gigs in 2009 – up 4 per cent from 2008 despite the ongoing recession, according to the songwriters’ body PRS For Music (Youngs 2010). Williams (2010) in her blog questions whether ‘Music Festivals [are] ofﬂ ine versions of online Communities’; she goes on to say ‘if Social Media is bringing like-minded people together online, music festivals are bringing bodies together ofﬂ ine’, suggesting that ‘at a time when the record companies claim music is in dire straits it seems live music is more popular than ever’.
