ABSTRACT

Both cases were sent to the High Court by the Attorney General, Dominic Grieve QC, on the grounds that the men’s actions interfered with the administration of justice, under the Contempt of Court Act 1981. Sir John Thomas, the then president of the Queen’s Bench Division (Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales from 1 October 2013), explained that the cases sent out a warning to prospective jurors generally that immediate custodial sentences for up to two years were almost inevitable in cases of this kind.
