ABSTRACT
Hades [hā′dēz] God of the Underworld; consort of Persephone; brother of Zeus Poseidon, but never found on Mount Olympus and practically never worshipped. He is a grim and fearful being who keeps the dead in his power and in certain cases punishes them for crimes (see death and burial), but he is not positively evil or malevolent.
