ABSTRACT

After the last few chapters, it might be possible to conclude that neo-liberal capitalism as we have known it has run its course. As we discussed, the world of business today is urgently in need of a new paradigm because ‘business as usual’ is simply not working well any more. The pursuit of prots without heed to broader consequences, as manifested in the wake of the collapse of Lehman Brothers, has had damaging and long-lasting consequences for many national economies and for generations of workers who have lost or never gained employment. Public distrust of business is at a historic high; many employees, customers and other stakeholders of businesses are disconnected from, and disillusioned with, the companies they interact with. Inequalities and inequities exist around the world and there is increasing social unrest as well as anti-capitalist movements.
