ABSTRACT

In the fi rst decade of the 21st century, more has been said and written about international migration and its so-called nexus with development than in the entire 20th century. We have seen several initiatives such as the Global Commission on International Migration (GCIM), the United Nations (UN) High-Level Dialogue (HLD) on International Migration and Development and the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD), apart from the huge and rising output of the World Bank, the International Labour Organization (ILO), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), many research organizations and networks and academia. The latest was the fi rst-ever thematic debate on international migration and development in May 2011 by the UN General Assembly.
