ABSTRACT

The first statement on the SLP and consumption is recent (Stebbins, 2009b). It makes a fine showcase for viewing an expression of all three forms and their interrelationship. Equally important is the fact that some leisure, since it is done at little or no cost, requires no consumption whatsoever. Leisure, this chapter will show, is by no means exclusively founded on consumption, as is sometimes claimed (see Stebbins, 2009b, pp. 2–3).
