ABSTRACT
We have claimed in the history of the SLP (available at www.seriousleisure. net) that it has now reached the status of established theory (discussed as ‘formal grounded theory’ in Stebbins, 2013f). That is, the SLP has developed to the point where several parts of it are now solidly anchored in a combination of exploratory and confirmatory research data. At this level of development, exploration is only necessary when examining new leisure activities or old ones that have been little studied or have changed dramatically. Thus the future of the SLP will be shaped in part by this level of theoretic maturity and accompanying research interests.
