ABSTRACT

While this book has reviewed the big thinkers in macro development economics, much of the current ferment and excitement in the field is in micro development economics. Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo have spawned an industry of randomized evaluations and impact assessments. 1 Such evaluations also lend themselves easily to Ph.D. dissertations, enabling graduate students in economics to demonstrate both theoretical innovation and empirical skills.
