ABSTRACT
In Results and Prospects Trotsky had argued that peasant support for a workers’ government would only be temporary. What he called ‘abolish-ing feudalism’ – that is, land reform – would win the support of the ‘entire peasantry’, but then ‘any legislation carried through for the purpose of protecting the agricultural proletariat’ would risk opposition from a minority and force the proletariat ‘to carry the class struggle into the villages’.
