The role of the Central Committee, according to Lenin . . . must be the watchdog of centralism. It dissolves oppositions and closes the gates of the party. To express to the congress the meaning of the Central Committee, Comrade Lenin held up his fist (I am not speaking metaphorically) as the political symbol of the Central Committee. We do not know if this mimicry of centralism is entered in the minutes. Let us hope so, for the fist would crown the whole construction . . .
