ABSTRACT

A recipe is a list of ingredients and instructions explaining how to make something, usually a type of food. This chapter explains what a recipe is and put up an example on the board and talks about how the recipe begins with a statement which says what is to be made. This is followed by a list of the ingredients, including the quantity of each ingredient, then step-by-step instructions explaining how the particular food is made. The chapter suggests to make a book of recipes for imaginary desserts such as Pirate's Pudding, Jack Horner's Pie, Mermaid's Delight, Queen of Hearts Tarts, Mother Hubbard's Magic Muffins or Simple Simon's Surprise. As part of a cookery project, the children can write recipes for a favourite dish, which they can then illustrate. They can design and print a class recipe book, which they can sell to parents at an event such as a Christmas fair.
