ABSTRACT

This chapter provides the checklist to identify which writing skills one has developed and which one needs to work on to improve their writing. Some of the checklist is: One should know how to use apostrophes correctly; one should understand the difference between a simile and a metaphor and use similes and metaphors when they write and one could punctuate sentences properly, using capital letters, full stops, commas, question marks and exclamation marks correctly. Here self-assessment plays an important part in the development of children's writing skills. If pupil is involved in assessing their work, they will be able to understand their strengths and weaknesses, and what they should focus on working to improve. People can use Activity sheet as a checklist for pupil to use and then discuss with you before setting them writing targets.
