ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses and identifies the dimensions of parenthood in the intensified documentation and assessment practices, as people can be differentiated from the data taken from the Internet. It discusses the transformative assessment between offline and online, and how parents seem to be both weakened and strengthened when parents move between and operate in different dimensions. It then talks about the educational institutions and their constraints on parental talk. The chapter examines Internet sites where parents discuss among themselves documentation and assessment in educational institutions. As a research context, the Internet sites differ considerably from the institutions. The complexities of contemporary parenthood in intensified documentation and assessment practices have been exemplified in this chapter through an analysis of the currents of thoughts on Internet sites. The chapter uses the term intensified to capture the denser documentation and assessment in all forms of communication, both non-electronic and electronic communication.
