ABSTRACT

Special education in today's schools is a huge enterprise. Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 1990 (IDEA) and Section 504 require schools to provide each student eligible under these laws with a free appropriate public education (FAPE). Special education teachers are the educational professionals most linked to students with disabilities. Without qualified special education teachers, general education classroom teachers, physical and occupational therapists, speech-language therapists, orientation and mobility specialists, and others, it is impossible for schools to adequately meet the needs of students with disabilities. Special education teachers and teacher aides, there are numerous related services personnel who are needed from time to time to meet the needs of students. IDEA defines related services as transportation and such developmental, corrective, and other supportive services as are required to assist a child with a disability to benefit from special education. Paraprofessionals can be of great assistance to students and teachers, perform many tasks and provide numerous supports for teachers and students.
