ABSTRACT

What a person should pursue in his or her short life and what will make him or her truly happy are eternal questions. Some people spend a lot of time and energy trying to figure this out for themselves; others simply do what others do. Individual pursuits and standards of success, and collective societal goals are the key driving forces of a nation. In China, the dominant life objective now is the accumulation of wealth, and the dominant social pursuit is the Chinese Dream. In this chapter, we will discuss the pursuit of wealth, the reasons behind this single-minded pursuit, the gradual shift to diversified objectives, and finally, the Chinese Dream.
