ABSTRACT

In zone one countries, intelligentsia, as well as the West, are largely immune from large scale critiques in mainstream debates of the fields of power. Thus the author proposes, besides the "dependence doxa", which makes a critical analysis of the relationship between Central Europe and the Western core in terms of dependence difficult, he sees another important doxa, which considerably complicates a critical analysis of the political situation in the region. The author calls it as the intelligentsia doxa and considers it as being of special relevance in zone one of the region. The privileged role of the intelligentsia in zone one countries, as well as the special role of the political elite in zone three, could be interpreted within a model, in which the roles of specific types of capital in particular societies would be linked to their positions in the world-system. One of the key elements of his proposal is the notion of compensatory capitals.
