ABSTRACT

This chapter links to Chapter 7 (Supply chain strategy) because these strategies determine how a distribution system will be structured. Specifically, this chapter focuses on the physical structures and processes which enable delivery of products to final customers. In recent years there has been a revolution in distribution systems across the globe. This is primarily driven by the rise of internet based retailing either through completely new businesses such as Amazon or the adaptation of existing sales channels with companies such as Carrefour and Tesco offering products directly for sale through the internet.
