ABSTRACT

Student behavior is heavily influenced by teacher's mood, attitude, and relationship with them. Many labels are reinforced by our school's disciplinary policy and procedures. They need to critically evaluate these procedures and see which parts reinforce negative behaviors and contribute to creating repeat offenders. The purpose of a disciplinary policy is to get students to reflect on their behavior and make better choices. The focus needs to shift to supporting students in building stronger relationships with their teachers, parents and leadership. Shifting the perspective to building stronger relationships with our students versus managing their behavior also allows us to reflect on own behavior. Teacher interactions, conversations, and attitude influence a student's behavior towards us. Additionally, they can prevent a situation from escalating to the point that the student's future is impacted negatively lose jobs and face serious charges. Have them create a Public Service Announcement video, multimedia flyer, radio broadcast in which they demonstrate methods for dealing with their stressors.
