ABSTRACT

Globalization is our current reality. Foreign policy is as much of a concern as domestic policy. The environment, global warming, war, poverty, and lack of resources are international problems requiring international brainstorming and problem solving. Global communication and collaboration are skills valued in the workforce. Unfortunately, global collaboration is not a priority in the curriculum; therefore, many students do not get the opportunity to use free web tools to connect and problem solve with peers worldwide. Collaboration and problem solving on a global scale are more realistic with the advancement of technology. Students can make friendships across the globe in a few clicks and hear back within minutes. Students can communicate in real time or leave multimedia messages for each other respond when convenient. In Germany, teachers used Skype to connect German students with students in the United States and UK. Present students with a problem or tragedy impacting the world. Have students brainstorm in groups ways to bring awareness.
