ABSTRACT

This chapter shows how to Cultivate Relationships between teachers and students. Growing up is tough. During the years students attend school, they are also developing and creating their own identities. Before they even begin to accept these changes and get used to them, their peers often ridicule them. On top of these challenges, students must also face peer pressure. When classrooms and schools resemble communities, help combat issues such as bullying and peer pressure. Teachers want students to share their thoughts, ideas, creativity, and imagination. This requires our students to open up and expose themselves. Therefore, they need to make sure our classrooms are safe learning environments, in which everyone welcomes and respects each other's contributions. One of the steps to building relationships and transforming classrooms into communities is to create opportunities for our learners to get to know each other. Icebreakers and team-building exercises encourage our students to learn about each other in a fun and active way.
