ABSTRACT

Students need to understand the consequences their online behavior has on their well-being and on society. Students are making bad choices with their online behavior, because failed to make them aware of their responsibility in shaping the norms, values, and customs of their digital society. Students realize anyone with an Internet connection can spread a message, go viral. Viral is a part of their culture, language, and rituals. Scan student accounts on Vine, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and Tumblr and notice they speak in memes. The Harlem Shake and Flash Mobs are examples of meme movements. Teachers can get them to realize they leave themselves vulnerable to attacks, criminal charges, and much more. Students work in small groups to produce videos or posters that encourage digital citizenship. Have them publish their projects and try to make these projects spread on various social networks. Create many opportunities for students to publish online.
