ABSTRACT
This chapter is divided into three sections: two separate sections on the future of PICU and NICU design, and a combined section on the future of PICU and NICU design research. Concerning the future of PICU and NICU design, while both settings are influenced by overall trends in critical care, many issues raised in the literature are appropriate to the specific requirements of PICUs and NICUs. Regarding design research, many of the issues and trends are similar; hence, an integrated summary was feasible.
