ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights some strategies as starting points for developing one's school culture into a transformational environment for their students. Wounded students face many issues that are hard to deal with and also hard to hear. Some wounded students have an awareness of their triggers and the need for a safe place to deescalate themselves. When people are entrusted with insight into a wounded student's life, they need to protect that child further by honoring their confidence. Whether this information comes through information offered by parents/caregivers or the child themselves, reassurance should be given that one can be trusted to keep this information as a tool for better understanding how to best serve this student. The only reason for a breach in this confidentiality would be if there was a concern regarding a child's or other person's safety. At that time, proper protocol should be followed for involving professional help.
