This chapter serves as a reminder that as people seek to be transformational and attentive, they need to be introspective in order to be influential in the lives of others. Sometimes, children of trauma are wounded because a caregiver or other person of authority in their lives misused their power or their influence. As people attempt to reach wounded students and help them in identifying the false beliefs they carry about themselves, they must periodically take their own personal inventory. People should consciously create a community of educators that lends support, understanding, and even suggestions based on previous personal experiences, when appropriate, to one another. The most immediate source of information and advice came from the school guidance counselors, who could share knowledge and resources, including some conferences and training that would be beneficial. But even conferences and training were somewhat limited in their offerings with regard to emotional literacy.
