ABSTRACT

Capitalism is a unique historical system driven by the pursuit of endless economic growth. The pursuit of infinite economic growth has been made possible by the massive exploitation of fossil fuels. Under the pressure of the growing working class power, the Chinese government may be forced to undertake serious economic, political, and social reforms. The Chinese workers will be provided with a growing range of political and social rights. By the 2020s, as China's oil production peaks, large sections of the Chinese population will understand that the existing model based on the ruthless exploitation of nonrenewable resources is unsustainable. Socialization of investment is required not only for achieving economic stability but also for ecological sustainability. Thus, ecological sustainability can only be achieved through some form of socialism.
