Even though theology and ethics are logically independent, 1 traditional moral attitudes regarding euthanasia are affected profoundly by theological ideas—and three in particular: that God alone has total dominion and control over all human life, that death is a form of punishment, and that to kill innocent life places one’s soul in jeopardy of eternal damnation. 2
