SUMMARY. Severallong-term religio-cultural trends in Ameriea, especially those associated with the radieal individualism of the culture, may have a significant impact on the environment in which human service professionals work. These trends may contribute to increased anomle and alienation, factors whieh tend to work counter to prevention in human services. Nonetheless, probably at no time in history have loeal clergy been as weil trained or as critically positioned to work in league with helping professionals.
