ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a repeated measures design in which 42 participants in an experimental group (Role Development program) and a comparison group (multidepartmental activity program) were measured on four dependent variables. Perhaps the combination of factors had an influence on low pretest scores. Subsequent quantitative and qualitative findings support the improved scores for this group. The chapter deals with demographic data on the sample followed by results of the pretests. After the major findings, quantitative data were presented on the staff participating in the training and implementation of Role Development, followed by qualitative data on staff and patient perceptions of the effectiveness of the intervention. The Role Checklist was examined followed by quantitative and qualitative data on the staff participating in the Role Development program.
