ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a case study about the response of the rehabilitation staff to role development. Eighteen staff participated in the implementation of Role Development. All of these staff were required to complete initial assessments and treatment plans, weekly interviews and progress reports, and attend a weekly meeting on the patients in the study. The assessments, treatment plan format, interview, and progress note format were specifically de-signed for the study and were distributed as part of the staff training manual. Upon completion of the study, the Principal Investigator met with 22 rehabilitation staff in post-study focus groups (one occupational therapy staff member and one art therapist did not have any patients involved in Role Development and therefore did not participate in the post-study focus group). Demographic data on the staff described a primarily female, paraprofessional staff with overall good compliance to the training and intervention involved with the Role Development program.
