ABSTRACT

Intimate relationships are difficult, complex, and often problematic. Volumes have been written about this subject, and our purpose is not to reinvent the wheel by redefining the character of all intimate relation ships. Rather, our focus in this chapter is to apply the basic model of masculine depression to intimate relationships with women. Disso ciated feelings and destructive behavior impair these relationships in predictable ways. Empathy for one’s partner is one of the most power ful antidotes to masculine depression.
