ABSTRACT

Hurricane predictions in the United States are prepared at the National Hurricane Center in Coral Gables, Florida for tropical cyclones in the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean and the Atlantic Ocean. Until 1988, cyclones off the west coast of Mexico in the eastern Pacific were forecast from the National Weather Service Eastern Pacific Hurricane Center located in Redwood City, California. Thereafter, responsibility for the forecasts was transferred to the National Hurricane Center. Central Pacific hurricane predictions emanate from Honolulu, Hawaii.
