ABSTRACT

This chapter and the next principally summarise responses to major issues in urban transport planning in interview sessions with numerous notable theorists and practioners in the USA, including many of the initiators of the UTP process of the 1950s and 1960s (see Appendix 1). The questions were posed (see Appendix 2) with the intention of drawing out the respondents’ views on the limitations and strengths of the UTP process and its derivatives to extract information about their personal involvement in the field that helped mould their views. Issues presented for discussion by the author in the interviews are shown in the text below in italics.
