ABSTRACT

Chapter 7 presents examples of the discursive types described above. It will be remembered that discourse of type 5– was not obtained in any quantity, and tended to be extremely brief, so the most important examples cover the range of types 1,2,3,4 and 5+. A single example of type 5– is also included. This was identified under rather special circumstances which are described later in this chapter. The examples given have, obviously, been specially selected for inclusion in this text. Not all examples are easily codable in terms of the system, and notwithstanding the high reliabilities obtained between judges, ambiguities do occur. Nonetheless it is hoped that the examples will give the reader a “feel” for the processes involved. For the purposes of this exercise, names of individuals and of agencies have been changed or deleted.
