ABSTRACT

There is a wide range of interventions used by adult day care centers in the treatment of the elderly and the disabled. These interventions include physical therapy, speech therapy, audiology, reality orientation, remotivation therapy, art therapy, and reminiscence therapy. Each has a special contribution to make to the well-being of the participant. For example, physical therapy helps the participant begin his/her return to independence. Speech therapy and audiology help restore communication abilities. Reality orientation is based on the principle that repeated orientations to the environment will reduce disorientation; while remotivation therapy, reminiscence therapy, art therapy, and recreational therapy are concerned with general psychosocial functioning.
