ABSTRACT
In chapter 9, White ably fulfills her assigned task of going beyond stereotypes about stepfamilies to determine who gains and who loses intergenerational social support in stepfamilies. Besides providing an excellent summary of the diverse interdisciplinary literature in this area, White provides an informative descrip tion of social support in stepfamilies of various configurations. The conceptual and empirical work in her chapter thus provides the groundwork for future, more focused and theory-driven studies of intergenerational social support in step families.
