ABSTRACT

Returning now to the test record, we examine figure " A " more carefully. The size is slightly smaller than the original. The horizontal axis of the figure is rotated slightly in a clock-wise direction. These suggest: fear (self-critical attitude) and depressive reaction, respectively. Both figures are of proportionate size (no specific, exaggerated reaction to either male or female sex symbol), but perhaps, the moderate rotation of the horizontal axis of the total figure is due to a specific reaction (dread of, hostility towards or lack of identification with, the male parent or surrogate). The latter possibility, or a derivative of it, is supported by the difficulty in "joining" the two figures (exaggerated, redrawn, overemphasized junction of the figures). This point is the more likely to be significant in view of the subject's speed in drawing, and in view of the apparently impulsive, concave sides of the square.
