The Amir's Staff and Escort.— Having decided to visit India, the Am ir selected the Sirdars who were to accompany him, some o f whom it was not prudent to leave in Afghanistan during his absence. The total o f his party, which included his bodyguard, cavalry and infantry, aggregated some 1 100 officers and men. During his absence he arranged for Sirdar Nasrulla Khan to assume full powers, while Sirdar Inayatulla Khan was placed in charge o f the army, but under the supervision of Nasrulla Khan.
