While the intrepid Denys de Montfort was pursuing his enquiry among the American whalers of Dunkirk, insistent on attributing to octopus deeds which were more probably those of enormous squids, some of the latter continued to attract attention throughout the world, in the north as well as in the south, the east as well as the west.
