ABSTRACT

The Family Herald is not the only journal that deals in birch. The Queen, a fashionable journal emanating from the great metropolis, opened its columns about five years ago to a controversy on the subject. The communications were at first only about the proper discipline for little children, and whether or not the Rod should be used in the nursery; but a good many letters were ultimately permitted, illustrating the punishment of children of larger growth. We need not quote from these, as they were similar to those which, appeared in the Family Herald—many of them being quite unreal—so unreal that we presume the following burlesque communication from “B.” was intended to bring the controversy (which had to be stopped by the editor) into ridicule:—
