ABSTRACT

(p. 369) The term Taw’ (qanun) is a foreign word borrowed from Greek philology. The origin, ‘canon’, meant the decree issued by the ruler for people to follow. Law is defined as the ‘general rulings’. The term ‘constitution’ is a foreign word taken from Persian philology. ‘Constitution’ is defined as the ‘basic laws which define the form of the State, the system of government therein, and explains the jurisdiction of every power.’ Alternatively, it may be defined as: ‘the laws which regulate general authority, define its relationship to the individuals, and define its rights and obligations as well as their rights and obligations.’
