ABSTRACT

(p. Ill) The social system 78 is the system which examines a woman’s relationship to a man and the outcome of this relationship; furthermore, it organizes the bonds of cooperation between them. This system is based on the following points:

A woman is primarily a mother and a housewife and she is an honour that must be protected.

It is essential that men be separated from women in Islamic society, that they not meet except for a necessity approved and decreed by law.

A woman has the right to work in business, industry and agriculture, to be in charge of contracts and transactions, and to own all types of possessions, to develop her capital, and to take care of her own affairs in life by herself.

A woman may be appointed in State positions, in judicial positions, may cast her vote and be elected to the advisory counsel, and may participate in the election of the caliph 79 and in pledging allegiance to him. (p. 112)

A woman may not be a ruler, caliph, or judge in the court of grievances; nor can she be a governor, or administrative officer, nor can she practise any work related to law enforcement.

A woman may not be alone with a man other than a person unmarriageable to her and she may not overadorn herself nor mix with men.

Both men and women are prevented from engaging in any work constituting danger to the morals or corruption to society.
